Chinchero, Moray and Maras 1 Day
Chinchero, Moray and Maras 1 Day
This tour takes visitors to one of the most interesting and unusual archaeological sites in Peru, the agricultural terraces of Moray, as well as the fascinating pre-Inca salt pans of Maras. Moray is a very atmospheric place which many people claim has mystical powers.
This remote and lovely site is an excellent place for acclimatization, with incredible views of the Sacred Valley of the Incas and the snowcapped mountains of the Urubamba range (Veronica, Salkantay, Chicon, Sahuarisay and Pitusiray). We will also visit the colonial village of Maras and its photogenic salt pans. This trip is particularly recommended for photographers interested in capturing the different moods and essences of these fascinating Inca sites.

Departing from Cusco, we will travel in our private transport for about 45 minutes as far as the village of Chinchero (population 900 / altitude 3762 meters or 12,340 feet). The village church was built over the foundations of what was once the Royal Palace of Tupac Inca Yupanqui. On arriving at Chinchero we will visit its historic center and colonial church, as well as the Inca ruins on the outskirts of the village, before visiting the local Awana Wasi (Weaving House), where the weavers of Chincheros offer demonstrations of their ancient weaving techniques.
From Chinchero we will continue to Moray. This archaeological site is composed of a series of concentric agricultural terraces which experts believe were used by the Incas as an experimental agricultural station for the development of new crop strains. We will spend about an hour exploring this complex, before heading back through local farmland to the charming village of Maras. Finally, we will visit the Maras salt pans, where salt has been exploited since pre-Inca times. From the salt pans we will return to the city of Cusco in our private vehicle.
